Adjunct Instructor - UAA Department of Art The UAA Department of Art in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is seeking applicants who are interested in teaching credit courses as Adjunct Faculty. Dedicated faculty, challenging curricula, well-equipped studios, a dynamic roster of visiting artists, and a gallery that focuses on national and international art exhibitions are the aspects of our department which empowers and prepares students for graduate study and fine art careers. The UAA Department of Art is seeking adjunct faculty for courses in the foundation areas of beginning drawing, 2D and 3D design, and color design, for delivery either synchronously in person on campus or asynchronously online. Interested candidates in other disciplines are welcome to apply as needs vary from semester to semester. Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from which instructors will be hired as needed. Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis according to the needs of that semester's schedule. Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, expertise in their discipline, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students. Adjunct faculty with semester assignments are subject to evaluation for teaching effectiveness. Candidates must be available to work within Alaska during the length of any assignment. To thrive in this role adjunct faculty need a passion for sharing their knowledge and skills with students and a desire to help turn student aspirations into reality. Successful candidates will possess interpersonal skills to engage effectively and courteously with students, staff, faculty, administration, and the general public.
Key Requirements & Qualifications
- Faculty teaching upper-division courses or graduate courses should hold a terminal degree in the appropriate discipline.
