Adjunct Instructor - UAA Department of Music The UAA Department of Music in the College of Arts & Sciences (CAS) is seeking applicants for its adjunct instructor pool to further its goal of fostering excellence in the preparation of music students for graduate school, teacher training or other careers in music. The department anticipates the need for private music lesson instructors in piano, brass, strings, voice, and woodwinds. Instructors of other instruments are welcome to apply and will be reviewed should a need arise in their specialty. Adjunct instructors are hired on a semester-by-semester appointment. Qualified applicants for this position will be placed into a hiring pool from which instructors will be hired as needed. Acceptance into the hiring pool does not constitute an offer of an appointment, nor does having worked one semester guarantee that a position will be available the following semester; hiring decisions are made on a semester-by-semester basis according to the needs of that semester's schedule. Candidates will be evaluated on suitability of their academic preparation, past teaching experience, expertise in their discipline, and potential for providing high quality instruction to undergraduate students. Adjunct faculty with semester assignments are subject to evaluation for teaching effectiveness. Candidates must be available to work within Alaska during the length of any assignment. Successful candidates will possess interpersonal skills to engage effectively and courteously with students, staff, faculty, administration, and the general public.
