The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) Department of Athletics is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Assistant Coach - Men's Hockey. Seawolf Athletics is a member of the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), and competes in multiple National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) divisions. The Seawolf program features 13 teams competing at both the Division I and Division II levels. As an Assistant Coach, you will assist with coaching, recruiting, academic success of student-athletes, student-athlete monitoring, strength and conditioning, and administrative support for the intercollegiate Division I men's ice hockey program. To thrive in this position, an individual working as an Assistant Coach at UAA needs to enjoy the intercollegiate athletics environment; have a passion to serve student-athletes for their health, safety and wellness. It is also important to understand the part they play in coaching and guiding the student-athletes in academics and competition. This balance takes strong convictions and the ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes, trainers, coaches and staff. In addition, this individual needs to possess the ability to establish a personal work-life rhythm that provides healthy boundaries, between work and personal life. To be successful in this role, an individual will need to have interpersonal skills that include diplomacy and a communication style that displays a high emotional intelligence to work with colleagues professionally. The individual needs to have the skills to counsel and motivate the young men are student-athletes in the program. They must have the ability to assist with the organization and leadership of various tasks and aspects of the program.
