Position Description

Assistant Professor of Chemistry The Department of Chemistry at the University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA) invites applications for a tenure track Assistant Professor of biochemistry. The applicant would join a collaborative and interdisciplinary community committed to instructional excellence, student mentorship, and community-engaged research. UAA provides access to world-class facilities and unique opportunities to address applied scientific challenges relevant to Alaska and beyond. The candidate is expected to establish a successful research laboratory, commensurate with the state of their career. The anticipated start date for this position is August 2027. The Department seeks candidates whose professional interests reflect a commitment to excellence in teaching, the development and maintenance of an active undergraduate research program, participation in service activities, and the continued growth of the department. Teaching responsibilities will primarily include the biochemistry sequence, along with general chemistry and other instructional assignments as needed based on the departmental needs and the candidate's qualifications. The ideal candidate will contribute research expertise that complements the department's existing faculty strengths and research infrastructure. Preference will be given to candidates with a collaborative approach to research and interests that support continued expansion of the department's analytical core, the Analytical Science for Environmental Toxicology (ASET) Lab.
