Position Description
The Signers' Business Office (SBO) at the University of Alaska Fairbanks is seeking a full-time Fiscal Officer to join our team. The SBO provides comprehensive financial support to faculty, staff, and students, helping them navigate and comply with complex federal, state, and university policies and procedures. Working in partnership with the university community, our office plays a vital role in advancing the broader mission of the University of Alaska Fairbanks. As a Fiscal Officer, you will process purchase requests, perform account reconciliations, and assist senior Fiscal Officers with fund management for approximately 40 units served by the SBO. This position offers an excellent opportunity to contribute to the university's financial operations while supporting a diverse range of departments and programs. The ideal candidate will possess excellent communication, organizational, and multitasking skills, along with the ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented, and deadline-driven environment. Extensive knowledge of spreadsheets, relational databases, and query development necessary for financial, budget and statistical analysis. Knowledge of accounting theory and generally accepted accounting principles, GAAP. Ability to analyze and implement process improvements. Knowledge of rules and regulations associated with operating budgets. The typical experience of the ideal candidate would have a minimum of three years experience as a fiscal officer within a University setting. The preferred candidate would be willing to continue their education for the betterment of the department. Ideally, the candidate would have impeccable customer service and interpersonal communication skills. Bachelor's degree in accounting, statistics or related field and 3 years progressively responsible professional fiscal experience, or an equivalent combination of training and experience. Professional licensure preferred (e.g. CPA, CFM).
