Position Description

As a Fiscal Technician 3, you will provide day-to-day operational and fiscal support for the Alaska INBRE (IdeA Network of Biomedical Research Excellence), based on-campus within the Institute of Arctic Biology (IAB). This role provides an important link between complex scientific research and university administration. This position will work directly with the Alaska INBRE statewide network of researchers, students, and faculty to provide accurate coordination for procurement, complex travel logistics, and detailed grant tracking they need to succeed. Fiscal & Budgetary Expertise: In-depth knowledge of accounting functions (AP/AR and activity codes) and diverse funding streams (grants, and unrestricted funds), with the ability to analyze financial documents, reconcile accounts, and ensure compliance with strict cost-transfer timelines. Computer Skills: Intermediate computer skills with proven experience navigating complex databases and automated accounting systems, specifically University Banner, QMENU, and Toad. Software Proficiency: Practical daily experience utilizing Microsoft Office (Excel, Word) and Google Suite (Sheets, Docs, Drive) to track, organize, and maintain precise data. Analytical Problem-Solving: Analytical and troubleshooting skills to independently identify account discrepancies, review financial documents, and resolve problematic fiscal issues. Policy Guidance: Ability to interpret, apply and navigate complex travel processes, procedures, rules and regulations, alongside fiscal rules, purchasing regulations, and UA Board of Regents (BOR) policies.

Key Requirements & Qualifications

  • Time Management: Ability to manage tight deadlines and multi-task independently through frequent workplace interruptions with minimal supervision.
