Position Description

Office of Research- Research Administrator Are you passionate about supporting innovative research and helping investigators secure and manage funding that drives discovery? The Office of Research is seeking a collaborative and detail-oriented Research Administrator to provide expertise in proposal development, budget preparation, award management, financial oversight, and compliance throughout the sponsored project lifecycle. As a Research Administrator within the Office of Research, you will provide comprehensive pre-award and post-award support for sponsored projects funded by federal, state, local, private, and institutional sponsors. You will review and interpret funding opportunity announcements, sponsor guidelines, and award terms to support proposal development, budget preparation, proposal submission, and award administration. Applying your knowledge of sponsored research regulations, grant and contract budgeting, cost principles, indirect cost and fringe benefit rates, cost-sharing requirements, effort reporting, and sponsor-specific compliance requirements, you will ensure proposals and awards are administered in accordance with institutional policies and sponsor expectations. You will monitor and manage post-award financial activities, including budget forecasting, expenditure review, account reconciliation, labor projections, and financial reporting to ensure compliance and effective stewardship of sponsored funds. Working closely with principal investigators, departmental staff, and university offices, you will analyze financial and administrative information, identify and resolve issues, prepare reports, and provide guidance on financial, administrative, and compliance matters through project completion. To thrive in this role, candidates should possess strong experience in research administration, sponsored programs, grants management, and financial oversight. Success requires knowledge of proposal development, award administration, budgeting, financial analysis, compliance requirements, sponsor regulations, and post-award management. The ideal candidate will be skilled in interpreting funding opportunities and award terms, developing and monitoring budgets, conducting financial reconciliations, and ensuring compliance with institutional and sponsor requirements. Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills are essential, along with the ability to manage multiple priorities, collaborate effectively with principal investigators and administrative partners, exercise sound judgment, and provide exceptional customer service in a fast-paced environment. Bachelor's degree in accounting, statistics or related field and 2 years professional fiscal experience or an equivalent combination of training and experience.
