Position Description
Term Clinical Instructor of Dental Hygiene The University of Alaska Anchorage (UAA), School of Preventative and Therapeutic Sciences seeks an innovative, energetic individual who will work in a collaborative teaching environment in the delivery of courses in the UAA Dental Hygiene program. The faculty member appointed to this position will provide advising to prospective and current Dental Hygiene students as well as laboratory and clinical education to students enrolled in the Dental Hygiene program. The faculty member will contribute to the structure and daily operation of the program and clinic, including organization, administration, periodic review and evaluation, continued development, and general effectiveness of program curricula. This position requires didactic and demonstrated experience in clinical and/or laboratory instruction, with the ability to effectively guide students in the development of safe, competent, and evidence-based dental hygiene practices. The successful candidate must demonstrate a strong commitment to student-centered learning, active student engagement, and instructional excellence in experiential learning environments. The individual should possess the instructional skills necessary to teach Dental Hygiene (DH) courses in clinical and laboratory settings, providing direct supervision, feedback, and evaluation of student performance. Experience working in diverse and multicultural learning environments, advising and mentoring students, and assessing student learning outcomes is expected. The successful candidate will contribute to a collaborative and supportive academic environment and work effectively with faculty colleagues, students, and community partners. A commitment to student success is essential, including fostering professional growth and supporting students in achieving their academic and professional goals. Excellent written, oral, and interpersonal communication skills, along with strong computer literacy, are required. The candidate must also demonstrate the ability to support and advance the mission of the College of Health and the University of Alaska Anchorage. Associate's degree or higher in Dental Hygiene Current Alaska Dental Hygiene License or Alaska Dental License, or the ability to obtain licensure by the time of hire. Current Alaska certification in Local Anesthesia and Nitrous Oxide Administration (or Alaska Dental License), or the ability to obtain certification by the time of hire. Alaska Restorative Functions endorsement, or the ability to obtain endorsement within one year of hire. Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or equivalent by the time of hire.
